Puccini 100 - Anniversary Concert

Opera concert

Overview

The year 2024 marks the centenary of the death of the great opera composer Giacomo Puccini who was born on 22 December 1858 in Lucca, Italy and died on 29 November 1924 in Brussels. Arguably, Puccini is the most familiar with aficionados of the late romantic opera and it is no coincidence that among the most frequented performed and recorded operas are two of his: La Bohème and Madama Butterfly.

Over the years, The Classique Foundation has presented highly successful concerts marking a particularly significant anniversary: for instance in 2001 with Verdi in concerto on the 100th anniversary from Verdi's death, and with Puccini 150 – Anniversary Concert on the 150th anniversary from Puccini's birth.

This year, The Classique Foundation is celebrating the centenary of Puccini's death with an operatic concert of famous arias, duets and orchestral music from Puccini's operatic oeuvre. This concert will feature two internationally renowned singers and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Joseph Debrincat, artistic director and founder of the Foundation.

PUCCINI 100 – ANNIVERSARY CONCERT is supported by the Cultural Heritage Directorate with the Ministry for Gozo and Planning, Teatru Astra, Visit Malta, NDSF and the Social Causes Fund.
