The Victoria International Arts Festival (Artistic Director: George J. Frendo) has over the years developed into Malta's longest-running one of its kind. For five weeks between June and July Gozo becomes a cultural hub, welcoming over 300 artistes from all over the world to perform a range of concerts from orchestral, chamber, big bands, solos, choral and more. There are also exhibitions, talks, and master classes to complement the main events of the Festival.
The inaugural concert will again be held at Teatru Astra in Victoria, and will see the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra perform Mendelssohn's wonderful Violin Concerto op. 64 (soloist: Andrea Gajic), as well as Brahms's Symphony no. 3 op. 90. The concert will open with Joseph Vella's Overture, Rebbieħa op. 45. The MPO will be under the direction of Philip Walsh.
