Full house for Verdi's Rigoletto

31 October 2009

Tonight is another big night for Teatru Astra, and Festival Mediterranea. Following last Thursday's huge success in the first performance of Rigoletto, tonight a full house awaits the second and last performance of Verdi's three act opera. Unfortunately during the last days Teatru Astra had to turn away late bookings which are still pouring in, just a few hours before the final night. Tonight's opera will be performed under the distinguished patronage of H.E. Dr George Abela President of Malta, and Prime Minister Dr Lawrence Gonzi.

The superb cast includes Peter Danailov (Rigoletto); Antonino Interisano (Duca di Mantova) and Gozitan soprano Miriam Cauchi (Gilda), Emilia Boteva (Maddalena) and Franco de Grandis (Sparafucile). Also featuring the Teatru Astra Opera Chorus (choir mistress: Dr Maria Frendo) and the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Prof. Joseph Vella. Artistic direction is in the hands of Mario Corradi.

Verdi's Rigoletto is part of the eighth edition of Festival Mediterranea - a cultural festival organised by the La Stella Philharmonic Society between the 23 October and 21 November.
