Heritage-and-history enthusiasts should keep their agenda free from other appointments and commitments during the first week of November as Dr David Trump, leading UK archaeologist and scholar, will be back in the Maltese Islands for yet another week of heritage-related events!
Dr Trump is once again a guest of the month-long Festival Mediterranea, organised by the Teatru Astra annually with events in both Malta and Gozo.
For the heritage-buffs, week 2 is of particular note:
Monday 1 November
The Archaeologist Speaks – Have you ever been curious what pottery meant for the population of prehistoric Malta? Have you ever wondered what the little statues
that we know of were made for? Dr Trumps will be delivering a lecture focusing on particular artefacts that participants can see closely and debate about.
Venue: Heritage Malta Gozo Office at the Citadel – Gozo
Time: 11.00am

Tuesday 2 November and Thursday 4 November
Let Dr Trump lead you through a visit to the magical Temple for the Dead that continues to arouse curiosity and a sense of veneration to history- archaeology- and architecture-enthusiasts to date. Get a signed copy of his ‘Malta Prehistory & Temples’ which may be purchased on site or get have the opportunity to have any of his books in your collection signed.
Venue: The Hypogeum, Paola – Malta. Meeting place: at the door 15 mins prior to start of tour.

Wednesday 3 November
We’re giving Dr Trump rest for a day but expeditions go on throughout Week 2 of Festival Mediterranea. We’re off to explore and meet those whose livelihood or hobby-
turned-work is tied to traditional food-making in Gozo. We’ll see how traditional cheeselets are made, how olives are pressed into oil, where mushrooms grow, and where
traditional white salt is harvested.

Friday 5 November
Ggantija – the story re-told, the experience relived. Experience the Ggantija Temples in the company of Dr David Trump, who knows every stone and filling between the
massive boulders and the tiny fillers, and another special guest who will give this year’s event a different aura.
Venue: Ggantija Temples, Xaghra – Gozo. Meeting place: temples’ main entrance.
Time: 3.45pm

Saturday 6 November
The Mystery of the Cart-ruts, and the many questions they pose. Who hasn’t wondered at the long or short trails that were left millennia ago out of eaten out rock? Are we surewhat they were for? Why do we still disagree? Dr David Trump, Prof. Anthony Bonanno, Prof. Frank Ventura, Prof. Derek Mottershead, Joe Magro Conti and Daniel Cilia willcome head to head in a half-day seminar that will tackle this enigmatic subject. Your questions are more than welcome of course!
