Major refurbishment works on the stage of Teatru Astra have been concluded in the past days. The works, which were partly sponsored by an Eco-Gozo project financed by the Ministry for Gozo, involved the re-alignment of the wooden stage, the upgrade of storage back stage facilities and further improvements in the electrical installation of the theatre.
The conclusion of this extensive project paves the way for the construction of the opera set for Norma, works which are already underway under the direction of Teatru Astra's resident stage managers Emanuel J. Farrugia and Carmel Zammit. Geroge Zammit oversaw the latest additions to the the theatre's electrical plant which were overhauled way back in 2005 when Teatru Astra was extensively refurbished. The sets for Vinenczo Bellini's opera Norma, planned by Enrico Stinchelli, the opera artistic director are being designed by the theatre's scenic artist Joseph Cauchi.
The committee of Teatru Astra and Festival Mediterranea are gearing up ahead of the official launch to the media and public of the tenth edition of Festival and opera Norma which will take place in the coming days. Information is available on helpdesk no 2155 0985 and [email protected] . Tickets for Norma are available for €70, €50 and €10 on booking line 79256897.
