Teatru Astra Announces Principal Cast for Singin’ in the Rain

 Teatru Astra is delighted to announce the principal cast fronting its much anticipated production of Singin’ in the Rain, to be staged on 14, 15, 19, 20, 21 and 22 March 2025.

Leading the cast in the iconic role of Don Lockwood is Francesco Nicodeme, a highly accomplished Maltese performer and graduate of the Urdang Academy in London. Nicodeme is a familiar face at Teatru Astra, bringing extensive local and international experience to the role, having previously appeared in major productions including Jesus Christ Superstar, West Side Story, La Cage Aux Folles and The Sound of Music.

The role of Cosmo Brown will be portrayed by Dean Ellul, who will be making his professional debut in this production. A seasoned performer since childhood, Ellul brings a strong comedic character and tap-dancing flair to one of musical theatre’s most beloved character roles.

Completing the leading trio is Clara Sciberras as Kathy Selden. With a diverse background in theatre, television and screen acting, Sciberras has appeared in productions such as My Fair Lady, Chicago, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Sound of Music. She was also runner-up in the television series Brillanti Musicals and recently undertook further training in London at the Identity School of Acting.

The production is led by Artistic Director Christopher Gatt. The orchestra will be led by George Apap’s baton. The creative team also includes Sylvana Attard as Chorus Mistress and Sarah Jane Zrinzo as Choreographer.

This production of Singin’ in the Rain is supported by the Ministry for Gozo and Planning, MeDirect, Visit Malta and the Malta International Airport.
