Unforgettable indeed!

19 November 2009

On Saturday 14 November, a full house at the Teatru Astra acclaimed the strong cast made up of one hundred and fifty wonderful, enthusiastic and dedicated dancers, all in sky-high spirits, when they took the curtain call right at the end of a spectacular show which will truly remain Unforgettable, as its name illustrates.

The theatre, opening its doors for the first time since the huge success brought about by the memorable double performance of Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto two weeks ago, welcomed another absolutely astonishing audience, that came to enjoy one other indelible spectacle as part of the eighth edition of Festival Mediterranea.

Produced by the skillful choreography and direction of Ms Nathalie Sciortino, and entailed in a total of more than thirty numbers, Unforgettable presented us with the best of the best among the modern music protagonists such as Elvis Presley, Madonna, Abba, Britney Spears, Celine Dion, Enrique Iglesias, Queen, and, Laura Pausini amongst others from the international scene.  Sammy Bartolo and Dominic Grech (The Tramps), from the musical local scenario, were given tribute as well.

The almost two and a half hour highly entertaining dance show, characterised also by spectacular lighting displays and elaborate costumes, came to an end with a video tribute to Michael Jackson, followed by a spectacular Grande Finale just before the curtain call.

All those who were involved in the organisation of this production deserve heartfelt praise and congratulations.

The Teatru Astra now makes place to the La Stella philharmonic band, its owner and shareholder, to perform its Annual Symphonic Concert, this Saturday, November 21, at 7.30pm, under the able direction of Prof. Joseph Vella, its musical director.  The concert concludes the eight edition of Festival Mediterranea.
