Vissi d’Arte: Puccini and Decadence, the latest publication by Prof. Maria Frendo

On Saturday 14th March 2026, Teatru Astra hosted the launch of Vissi d’Arte: Puccini and Decadence, the latest publication by Prof. Maria Frendo, at the Joseph Vella Hall.

The event was opened by the Soc. Fil. La Stella’s President, Michael Formosa, who delivered introductory remarks highlighting Prof. Frendo’s longstanding and invaluable contribution to Teatru Astra, particularly her decades of dedicated service as choir mistress.

This was followed by an address by Prof. James Corby, Head of the Department of English at the University of Malta, who spoke about Prof. Frendo’s significant academic legacy and her invaluable work within the University.

Prof. Frendo then addressed those present, expressing her gratitude to all those who contributed to bringing the publication to fruition. Subsequently, Prof. Joe Friggieri offered an insightful interpretation of the book, providing the audience with a deeper appreciation of its themes.

The event concluded with a book-signing session, during which attendees had the opportunity to meet the author and obtain signed copies of the publication.
